The Old Man at the Bus Stop

Part 1.

English Story

Every morning, Minsu took the same bus to work.

At the bus stop near his apartment, there was always an old man sitting on the same bench.

Rain or shine, the old man came at almost the same time every morning.

But there was something strange about him.

Whenever the bus arrived, everyone got on.

Everyone except the old man.

At first, Minsu didn’t pay much attention to him.

But one morning, he finally became curious.

“Sir, you come here every day. Don’t you ever take the bus?”

The old man looked at Minsu and smiled.

“I’m waiting for someone.”

Part 2.

English Story

“Who?”

The old man didn’t answer.

Instead, he took an old wallet out of his pocket and pulled out a small photograph.

There was a young woman standing beside him.

They were both smiling.

“My wife,” he said.

Minsu looked at the photograph.

“Where is she now?”

The old man was silent for a moment.

Then he said quietly,

“We lost touch a long time ago.”

Minsu didn’t ask any more questions.

After that day, he continued to see the old man at the same bus stop.

Always on the same bench.

Always at almost the same time.

Part 3.

English Story

A few days later, it was raining heavily.

Minsu ran to the bus stop with an umbrella.

But the old man wasn’t there.

For some reason, Minsu felt worried.

So instead of getting on the bus, he decided to wait.

About ten minutes later, the old man finally appeared.

He was walking slowly through the rain.

“You’re late today. Are you okay?”

The old man smiled and caught his breath.

“Today is a little different.”

He reached into his pocket and took out a small piece of paper.

There was an address written on it.

“I found her.”

Minsu stared at him.

“You found your wife?”

The old man nodded.

“A friend helped me find her online. It took a long time.”

“Are you going to see her today?”

The old man looked toward the road.

“Yes.”

He paused for a moment.

“I don’t want to wait anymore.”

A few minutes later, the bus arrived.

For the first time, the old man got on the bus.

As the bus pulled away, he sat by the window and took out the old photograph.

Minsu stayed at the bus stop and watched the bus disappear down the road.

That morning, Minsu thought about something.

Sometimes, we wait too long.

We wait for the perfect moment.

We wait until we feel ready.

We wait for things to get better.

But maybe some moments don’t come while we wait.

Maybe they begin when we decide to move.
